It is essentially an automated identification technology utilising tiny, inexpensive microchips which will eventually replace bar codes. It promises to deliver so much to so many different industries, but at what cost, not just to industry players but also to the important people, the consumers? 

With falling costs and increasing trials, RFID looks set to become a major component, and this paperâs aim was to provoke argument and decide whether the technology would revolutionise the supply chain.
